Coober Pedy
We passed via the South Australia state border with Northern Territory again today. We totally forgot about the fruit quarantine at the border when grocery shopping yesterday, so we tried to eat up as much ch fruit as possible before the check point. However, it turned out there wan NO human inspection entering into South Australia from Northern Territory!!!
We took time to tour via Coober Pedy self-described as the "opal capital of the world". It's harsh summer temperatures and the dominant industry made most residents live underground, i.e., in caves bored into the rock of the hills around the town, which reminds me of Cappadocia
in Turkey (not as scenic though). We saw Numerous mining dirt piles within 50 km radius of the town. We cooked lunch in a community park and then visited the interesting Desert Cave Hotel Museum to see the free Exhibitions about opal mining and Coober Pedy's history and landscapes.
