Downtown Sydney
I started my 1st day in Sydney with a free walking tour to uncover the history and explore the sites of down town Sydney. The guide has architectural background and talked about Sydney's transport, history, culture, events, art, restaurants and hidden bars.
Sydney is known as the Harbour City and the largest, oldest and most cosmopolitan city in Australia. It reminds me of New York City with a smaller scale, yet Sydney's set next to miles of ocean coastline and sandy surf beaches. The city has the iconic Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Sydney enjoys over 300 sunny days each year, was unusually hot today (32 c instead of 24c). The tour also covers Queen Victoria Building, Pitt St Mall, Hyde Park, Circular Quay and more.
Sydney was once comprised almost entirely of British convicts, their guards and the few settlers who accompanied them; but now I saw a high percentage of Asian population, especially Chinese.
After the tour, I visited the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Royal Botanic Gardens Covering 30 hectares with over 7500 species of plants, and most importantly, offering an overlook Sydney harbour.
