Alice Springs
We finally arrived Alice Springs, and finished our adventure into the heart of this ancient land. The Red Centre Way drive navigates through Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Kings Canyon, part of the MacDonnell Ranges and Alice Springs.
The Arrernte (pronounced Arrenda) Aboriginal people have made their home in the Central Australian desert in and around Alice Springs for more than 50,000 years. According to the Arrernte traditional stories, in the desert surrounding Alice Springs, the landscape was shaped by caterpillars, wild dogs, traveling boys, sisters, euros (Kangaroo like creature) and other ancestral figures.
We saw in Alice Springs some aboriginal people sitting at park and street corners, and sine walking and cursing loud on the streets which made me feel uncomfortable, although the town was interesting and pleasant. We did grocery shopping and gas filling before heading to Sydney. We were planning to take a northern route but learned from the visitor center it would take 500+ km so we decided to take a similar route as we came in, which will stall take 3 days through the endless red desert sands, spinifex and mulga forest.
I like New Zealand better because it's lush green grass/forests and blue lakes that are much easier to access. In Australia, it takes a long time to reach a landmark.
